P is for Preschool

I can't believe Carson has been in preschool for almost 2 months, and I have yet to post about it. Major slip on mommy's part! :) After much debate, Jason and I decided to enroll Carson in preschool....at Community Presbyterian Preschool here in town. I had mixed feelings about it in the beginning, but overall it has been a great experience for the both of us, so I feel good about it being the right decision and the right time. If you had asked me if he was ready, or if I was ready, back in August, I would have definitely replied, "No!" But he has really matured the past 6 months, and the boys and I have found a daily schedule that works for all of us. Carson goes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 8-11, so about 9 hours a week.
Every other Wednesday, they walk to the library and they get to check out their own books for the week. Carson, my little book lover, was more than thrilled to get his own library card, and you can probably guess what his first check-out was - a dinosaur book! Last Wednesday, Owen and I walked with the class to the library. It was fun to see him in a classroom setting and holding the hand of his walking buddy on the way to the library. He was so well-behaved! Of course, his teacher, Ms. Lynn, has nothing but good things to say about Carson, including about how smart he is. I am one proud mom!
The most important thing is Carson loves it. In the morning when I mention to him that it's time to get ready for school, he practically jumps out of bed. He always has been my little social butterfly, so I think he enjoys being around the other kids in his class. He already has a lot of knowledge about numbers, ABCs, shapes, colors, etc., but what I think, well hope, preschool does for him is teach him about following directions, listening to the teacher, how to act in the classroom, that sort of thing, before he heads off to kindergarten. And another bonus, is that I get to spend some quality one-on-one time with baby Owen. Overall, it's been a positive experience so far. And we may have even finally found a church we like in the process!
