Cruise and Catalina

I have finally gotten around to downloading pictures from our cruise! We drove to San Diego on Sunday and the Carnival cruise ship, Elation, headed for sea around 5:30. We spent the following day at Catalina Island, which is where the majority of these pictures were taken. Jason and I absolutely loved Catalina Island, or what we nicknamed "Jurassic Island," in reference to Jurassic Park. I think only dinosaur-loving nerds like Jason and I would come up with that name. Haha. No wonder Carson loves dinosaurs! =)

Anyways, the island was so laid back and the people were fun and friendly. For example, we went to grab some coffees at the local coffee shop, and we didn't realize they didn't take debit cards until the lovely man had already made our coffees. Since we didn't have any cash on us, we told him we would hit up an ATM and come right back for our coffee. He waved that idea off, told us to take our coffees now, and to bring the cash back to him by closing time that day. I didn't think that kind of trust in people was still around anymore. Jason and I even went as far as looking at the price of houses in the area, mainly just for fun, and I think a 1 bedroom, 1 bath was over $500,000. Therefore, we will probably still be staying in Benson for the time being. =) We actually didn't get to the island until almost lunch time because sleeping in was our main priority during our trip, so instead of taking a guided tour, we decided to explore the island on our own...in a golf cart. I have never seen so many golf carts in my life. I think more people drove golf carts on the island than actual cars! After our drive and a little shopping, we stopped by El Galleo restraurant for some yummy seafood, island drinks and kareoke - a nice way to end our stay on the island because we had to be back on the boat by dinner.

The next day we were suppoed to head to Ensenada, Mexica, but due to the swine flu, we did not dock. We could actually see Mexico from our ship.....so close yet so far away. I think the majority of our time on the ship, Jason and I spent either in the casino or eating! =) We also enjoyed some shows, a wine tasting, and some dancing. I love Roulette, but I don't think I had ever played so much roulette in my life. The dealers pretty much new me by name and would yell to me 7-8 as I walked by (which is Carson's birthday - he won me alot of money!). Jason got 2nd place in a poker tournament, and spent a lot of his time cheering me on or at the craps table. I have spend many hours watching him play craps, and I still don't understand that game. I also made it to the final 8 in a slot tournament, but sadly did not end up winning the grand prize. It was fun because they announced your name and everyone was cheering in the background. The food was delicious! I always left the dining room table filled to the brim. We got lucky and ended up sitting next to a really young, funny man and woman from San Diego, so we were in good company as well.

The only downside to our whole trip (besides missing my baby!) was that I think we saw a total of 2 hours of sun during those 4 days. I joked that I think I came back to Arizona less tan than when I left! It was also chilly, which is why we weren't sunbathing on the decks much either. Overall, it was really wonderful to spend some quality alone time with Jason, which is what the trip was all about!

I like how they put my sunglasses on this one!

Catalina from the ship's deck. The ship couldn't go near shore, so we had to take little boats into the harbor. Therefore, it took forever to get off the ship because we had decided to sleep in a little and tried to get to the island during rush hour. =P It was fun to take a boat to the island though.

The right side of the island

The left side of the island. The island as a whole was actually really big, but because of time restraints, we only explored a very small part. This is why I would love to go back for a weekend and get to see all sides of the island.

The dock entering the island. Once again, it was cloudy.
